i just finished fixing the brakes on my bike for the first time. go me!
so my front brakes started squeaking pretty badly in the last week or so which was most apparent when i was trying to act all too cool for school biking behind this adorable bike messenger boy and come screeching up to the red line beside him. needless to say, i didn't get his number. anyway, i did some research online which told me that i probably needed to toe in my brakes, meaning adjust them so the front of the pad hit the wheel first:
now, this took substantially longer than it should have due to my own ineptitude, but hey that just makes it feel like more of an accomplishment now. so eventually i figured out that though there may be other methods for other bikes, what i had to do was physically bend the metal brake arms into the right position. fixed it up right as rain.
along the way i figured out a bunch of other stuff like how to tighten and adjust the brakes. exciting! the next project is to rewrap my handlebar tape.
